Make your Bed
The best way to start your day
My opinion on making the bed has changed from when I was little. It used to be a frustrating task, done because my Mom told me to. Making my bed so I could mess it up later seemed counter-intuitive. However, as I've grown older, my perspective has shifted. I've come to realize the surprising benefits of this childhood habit. To explain why making your bed isn't as trivial as it seems, I've compiled a list of reasons that make it a worthwhile daily practice.
Reason 1: A sense of accomplishment
Starting your day by making your bed gives you an immediate sense of accomplishment. You've already achieved something in those first few moments, even if you're still half-asleep. Taking just 5 minutes for this simple task can pave the way for a more fulfilling day. Knowing that my bed is made gives me a sense of relief. The idea that no matter what type of day I've had a nice warm bed waiting for me at home is one of the best feelings ever.
Reason 2: Organization in the Room
Surprisingly, a morning bed-making routine tends to spill over into keeping the rest of your room tidy. I've noticed that my room tends to be messier on the days I skip making my bed. Conversely, a made bed encourages an organized atmosphere. Moving around your room to make the bed naturally fosters a cleaner space.
Reason 3: Responsibility and Discipline
Beyond immediate benefits, making your bed has long-term advantages. It instills a sense of responsibility, even on hectic mornings, fostering discipline that positively influences the rest of your day. This small but deliberate habit becomes a mindset-shaping tool, making you more disciplined.
Reason 4: Self-respect
Above all, making your bed is an act of self-respect. You deserve to return to a neatly made bed at the end of the day. This simple act provides comfort and a sense of achievement. By valuing yourself enough to make your bed, you declare that you're worth more than a messy floor and an unmade bed. It reinforces the belief in yourself that you are worth something – a goal everyone should aim for.
In Conclusion,
You should make your bed in the morning, see what it's like. Hopefully, you'll feel a sense of accomplishment, improve the state of your room, implement discipline in yourself, and start to respect yourself enough to come home to a made bed. So make your bed, be efficient, and look out for next week's email.
