The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens - Habit 2

Hey there! I've recently had the pleasure of exploring the profound insights of Sean Covey's book,' The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens '. Today, I'm thrilled to share some of its wisdom with you, starting with the second habit: Begin with the end in mind. This habit, along with the first and third, forms a crucial part of the book's 'private victory' section. Let's embark on this journey of personal development together!

Part 1

Let's break down the first part of this habit. It's about envisioning where you want to be in a year from now-your hopes, dreams, goals, and achievements. This is the first step towards success. After all, how can you know where you're going if you don't know where you want to be? This habit encourages you to think ahead and align your daily decisions with your long-term goals. It also provides a practical five-step guide to setting up a goal: Count the cost, Write it out, Commit to doing it, track your goals, and set up a support system.

Part 2

The second aspect of this habit underscores the long-term implications of your present choices, such as your friendships and academic priorities. If you're not mindful of the company you keep and the current focus of your life, your future trajectory could be drastically different. Consider your friends, for instance; if they influence you to neglect your studies or important events, you might regret it later when applying for college. This is a dramatic illustration, but it underscores the significance of the choices you make now for your future.

Part 3:

The third point of this habit is to write a personal mission statement. A Personal mission statement is like a motto for your life and where you want it to go. It takes a lot of self-reflection and thought to come up with one. I'm still making mine. Fortunately the book gives some methods for coming up with one: Method 1: use quotes, Method 2: Brain dump, Method 3: self-reflection. These are just a few strategies, but these can help you come up with your mission statement. Just remember that it doesn't need to be like everyone else's. Once completed, put it somewhere that you can see it every day.

Conclusion

The overall message of this habit is that you need to be aware of your end goal when making choices in your life now. This means being aware of how your choices now could impact your future, setting goals for the future, and writing a personal mission statement to live by. By setting up these practices, it becomes much easier to focus on the end goal.
